What it fits

  • Avery 5395 adhesive name badge sheets (3-3/8 x 2-1/3 inches, 8 badges per US Letter sheet)
  • Other adhesive name badge sheets whose package lists the same 5395 layout
  • No holder, clip or lanyard needed: the badge sticks straight onto a shirt, blouse or jacket

Printing tips

  • Set the print dialog to Actual size or 100% scale, because Fit to page shrinks the grid and the lower rows miss their stickers.
  • Choose Labels as the paper type and feed the sheet through the manual or rear tray if your printer has one, so the adhesive sheet travels a flatter path.
  • Print the outlines-only alignment test on plain paper, lay it on top of a sticker sheet, and hold both up to a window to see where the boxes fall against the die cuts.
  • If every outline is off by the same distance, shift the whole grid with the offset control in 1/32 inch steps, up to 1/4 inch in any direction.
  • Keep names and logos about 1/8 inch in from the die-cut edge so a small feed shift never clips a letter.
  • Give inkjet sheets a few minutes to dry before you peel or stack them, or the names can smear onto the next sheet.

When a 5395 sticker is the right badge

Adhesive badges suit events that last a few hours: a networking mixer, a wedding reception, a church welcome table, a reunion picnic, or the first morning of a workshop. Nobody has to hand back a holder, and you skip buying lanyards. The trade-off is durability, since a sticker rarely survives a second day. The usable area is small, roughly 3.1 x 2.1 inches once you keep 1/8 inch clear on each side, so give the name most of it. A first name set around 32 to 40 points reads across a conversation, with a last name or table number beneath it at about half that size. Turn on auto-fit so a long name shrinks instead of running past the edge. If people will wear a badge all day with a title and company, a 4 x 3 insert in a holder gives you more room.

Running a sticker badge table without a line

Sort your list alphabetically by last name in your spreadsheet before you paste or upload it, because the sheets print in the same order as the People list. Lay the printed sheets out in that order and put a small sign over each group, such as A to F, so guests find their own badge. Peeling is the slow part, so ask a helper to pre-peel the corner of each sticker before doors open. Print one extra sheet with the name text removed for walk-ins, and set out dark felt-tip markers, since a ballpoint pen is hard to read at this size. Remind guests to wear the badge on the right side of the chest, where it is easy to see during a handshake.

Avery 5395 template questions

Which fabrics give Avery 5395 name badges trouble?

Stickers hold best on smooth woven cotton and blends. Fleece, chunky knits and textured sweaters give the adhesive little to grip, so badges curl or drop off. Delicate materials such as silk, suede, velvet and leather can be marked or pulled when the sticker comes off, so suggest those guests stick the badge to an outer jacket or a bag strap, and peel it off before anything goes in the wash.

How big should a name be on a 3-3/8 x 2-1/3 inch sticker?

Aim for a first name of about 32 to 40 points in a bold sans serif such as Montserrat or Inter, which stays legible from a few steps away. Script fonts like Great Vibes need a larger size to read as clearly, so save them for weddings and pair them with a plain last name. Auto-fit scales down anyone whose name is wider than the badge.

Why do the lower rows of my 5395 sheet print off the stickers?

When the top row lines up but each row below drifts further, the sheet was scaled or pulled through at an angle. Confirm that the print dialog says Actual size, feed one sheet at a time through the manual slot, and snug the paper guides against the edges. The offset control moves every badge by the same amount, so it corrects an even shift but not drift that grows down the page.

Can guests who show up unannounced get a matching 5395 badge?

After printing the named sheets, delete the name text from the design and export again, which gives you stickers with the same header, colors and logo plus a blank space to write in. Keep a couple of dark felt-tip markers at the table and ask walk-ins to print their first name in capital letters.

Will Avery 5395 downloads include a watermark?

Avery 5395 badge sheets contain no watermark or added credit line, either on the stickers or in the margins. Add your own logo and names, then print the alignment test at actual size before using your adhesive stock.
