Printing tips
- Print the PDF at 100% scale with no page fitting, since a CR80 badge that shrinks even a little slides around in a card holder.
- Use the cardstock or heavy paper setting and a manual feed tray where your printer has one, so the thicker sheet feeds straight.
- Check the layout by printing the badge-outline test page on plain paper before you spend your good stock.
- If the outlines sit toward one side, adjust the printer offset 1/32 inch at a time; the control stops at 1/4 inch in each direction.
- Card holders can cover a thin rim of the insert, so keep names and titles a comfortable 1/8 inch or more inside the edge.
- Trim with a paper cutter rather than scissors, because a clear CR80 holder shows every wobble in a hand-cut edge.
What a paper CR80 badge does well, and what it can't do
A CR80 badge is small enough to wear on a reel or clip for a whole shift without swinging into a keyboard, a patient or a register, which suits retail, healthcare and office teams. The catch is space. At 3-3/8 x 2-1/8 inches you have room for a first name around 24 to 32 points, a role or credential line at 10 to 13 points, a small logo, and a group color bar. Put the name first and the role second, such as RN or Shift Lead, since that is what customers and patients look for. This site exports sheets you print, trim and slip into a holder, and a card can carry each person's own photo plus a second side for return details. Plastic at home takes inkjet-printable PVC cards in a compatible tray or an ID card printer, and printed plastic card orders are not available here. Check your workplace badge policy for anything the badge must show.
Making paper CR80 badges last through daily wear
Paper in a rigid holder holds up better than paper in a thin vinyl sleeve, which bends and creases with every sit-down. Cardstock helps the badge keep its shape and stops it sliding inside a loose holder. If you plan to laminate, test one card first, because a laminated card is thicker and may not fit a rigid holder made for a single card. Laser toner usually copes with damp hands better than dye-based inkjet ink, so teams who wash their hands often may prefer a laser print. Can this CR80 template print directly onto blank PVC cards?
The export is a PDF for US Letter paper or cardstock, so an ordinary paper tray can't take loose PVC cards. Two home routes reach plastic: inkjet-printable PVC cards fed through a compatible card tray, or a dedicated ID card printer. Otherwise print on cardstock, trim along the cut lines, and use a rigid CR80 holder. This site does not accept orders for printed plastic cards.
Can each CR80 badge carry a different employee photo?
Each person can have their own photo, alongside the name, title, company and group color that already change per person from your list. That turns a CR80 badge into a photo ID card, and a second side can hold a return address and an emergency contact. A name and role badge without a photo still suits customer-facing and volunteer roles.
How small can the name be on a credit card size badge?
For a badge worn at chest height, a first name of about 24 points is a practical floor, and 28 to 32 points is easier for customers to read across a counter. Set roles and credentials smaller, near 10 to 13 points. Turn on auto-fit so a long name shrinks to the card width instead of being cut off.
Do paper CR80 badges work on retractable badge reels?
Yes, as long as the paper badge sits inside a holder. The reel clips to the holder's slot, and the holder protects the paper from bending each time someone pulls the reel to show the badge. Choose a rigid holder for reels that get tugged often, since a soft sleeve lets the card crease.
Is a printed CR80 badge good enough for building security?
Treat it as identification only. A paper badge is easy to reproduce, and this site doesn't add barcodes, magnetic stripes or anti-counterfeit features, so it can't control a door. Staff can wear it in a holder next to an existing access card, and your security team should decide what an official credential must include.
