Using branch colors so cousins can place each other
Use a family branch in the Group column and add a short relationship line so relatives can place an unfamiliar name. Keep branch labels consistent across the guest list and show the relationship in text as well as color.
Name tag type sizes older relatives can actually read
Give names generous space in a clear, high-contrast font and keep the relationship line large enough to read at a table. Print a sample for an older relative to check before producing the full set.
Kids, nicknames and weekend-long reunions
Use the name or nickname each guest prefers, with first names for children where appropriate. For a weekend event, protect inserts in reusable holders and keep a few blanks available for extra guests or changed plans.
How to make family reunion name tags
Set up the reunion tag
Choose the Family Reunion template, keep Avery 5395 as the size, and change the heading to your reunion name and year, for example Walker Family Reunion 2026.
Build the family spreadsheet
Make a CSV with Name, Branch, Relationship and Hometown columns, sorted by branch. After uploading, map Branch to Group, Relationship to custom1 and Hometown to Company, then put the {{custom1}} and {{company}} tokens in the smaller text lines.
Label each branch
In People, give each branch a label override such as Descendants of Rose and Walter, then step through the preview to check Great-Grandma's tag and the longest names on the list.
Print and set up sign-in
Run the alignment test sheet before using real labels, then export the PDF. Add two or three rows with an underscore line as the name so surprise cousins can write in their own.

What should a family reunion name tag say besides the name?
Keep it to two short lines under the first name. A relationship line answers the question everyone is asking, such as Grandson of Mae or Married to Tony, and a hometown gives distant cousins an easy opener. A branch label or color shows which side of the family someone comes from. Anything longer than that gets hard to read at arm's length.
How do I show which branch of the family someone is from?
Use the Group column. Every distinct branch value gets its own accent color on the same design, and a label override lets a short value like Rose print as Descendants of Rose and Walter. Spell each branch value the same way on every row, because a typo such as Ross instead of Rose creates a separate group with a different color.
How many sheets of Avery 5395 labels does a family reunion need?
Each sheet holds 8 tags in 2 columns and 4 rows, so divide your head count by 8 and round up. A reunion of 75 relatives needs 10 sheets. Buy at least one extra sheet for misprints, late RSVPs and surprise guests, and a second if your cousins tend to bring friends along.
Can older family members get larger print than everyone else?
All tags in a list share one layout, so the simplest route is making every tag easy to read: a first name around 40 point or larger and secondary lines no smaller than 16 point. If you want a special version, such as an Honored Elder tag with an even bigger name, adjust the design and export a separate short list for those relatives.
